Frequently asked questions

What is CCLS Giving Day?

A single 36-hour digital giving initiative in which we ask the CCLS’ global community to come together to encourage you to join our community of supporters as we come together to support funding for the Roy Goode Scholarship and new CCLS Bursary Fund.

With thousands of pounds to unlock in matched and challenge funding, it’s a day like no other and your gift will go even further than usual.

It will be a transformational day of giving and it’s all about what we can achieve together.

CCLS’ first-ever Giving Day will take place on 8th – 9th June. We hope that you will join us!

What difference will my donation make?

Your support will help make a lasting impact on students and develop them into future leaders and innovators in law, commerce, and government by enabling them to reach their full academic potential. You can choose which fund your donation goes to:  either the Roy Goode Scholarship, which helps the brightest and best come to study at CCLS, or CCLS Bursary Fund, which provides necessary financial support for those in need.

Your contribution, regardless of its size, and when combined with the generosity of others, will provide life-changing opportunities for future CCLS students

How can I make my gift?

Yes! If you’ve chosen not to make your gift anonymous, you can take a look at the donor wall to see your name.

Is there a minimum donation?

The minimum online gift amount is £1.

I set up a regular gift, what will show in the totaliser?

The total of your direct debit payments for the duration of time selected will show up in the total raised on the website.

Can I claim Gift Aid on this donation?

Yes! If you are a UK taxpayer and have paid as much Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax as the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year, CCLS’ can reclaim the basic tax rate (25%) on your gift, with no extra cost to you. So, for example, your donation of £100 will be worth £125.

Can I donate tax-efficiently?

Queen Mary University of London is a member institution of the British Schools and Universities Foundation Inc (BSUF); in the last five years BSUF have managed gifts on behalf of the university of over US $1m. BSUF have now simplified the process for donors to make gifts by credit card.

If you make your gift via the CCLS Giving Day platform and select ‘Donate in USD’ you will be re-directed to British Schools and Universities Foundation (please select “Queen Mary, University of London”)

Any gift made via the BSUF website will still count towards the Giving Day total and any Challenges.

Gifts from Canadian taxpayers: Queen Mary University of London is recognised by the Canadian Revenue Agency as a prescribed institution under Section 3503 of the Canadian Income Tax Regulations. Please email alumni@qmul.ac.uk if you would like to request a receipt for Canadian tax purposes.

Gifts from European taxpayers: If you are a European resident you may be able to maximise your gift through Transnational Giving Europe (TGE). If you’d like to make a tax-effective gift in support of our Giving Day, the best option is to give early and let us know.
